NE Youth Score Well at Junior Olympic Region 1 XC

Individuals finishing in the top thirty and the top five teams in each division qualified for the national championships to be held on December 8 in Reno, Nevada Despate a change in location 72 hours before the event and strong competiion, USATF New England youth runners top  Over 1000 athletes covered four distances in ten races at New York City's historic Van Cortlandt Park.

Continued wet weather and a snowstorm left the originain site, Bowdoin Park, unrunnable so the USATF New York was able to make a late site change to the historic cross country venue in the Bronx and hosted a top notch day or competition.
 
Runners from six associations qualified at their local championships, with New Englanders having the home field advantage, the USATF-NE meet having run at the same site the previous week. And so strong is local competition that the 11-12 and 13-14 age group races in New England were larger than those at Region 1.
 
Six New Englanders were individual titleists across the championship contests. Girls winners were Carmen Luisi (Unattached, Holliston MA), who won the 11-12 3000m and Abigail Broadley (Wild Endurance, VT) who was top placer in the 15-16 division 5000m   Region 1 Boys winners were a trio of Khalil brothers from Haverhill Elite - Tyson won in 11-12 Jared in 13-14, and Dylan in 15-16. Nasavell Medeiros (Sentinel Striders) won the boys 17-18 gold.        
 
New England clubs were at the top of the scoring in seven races. Nashua PAL led the way in the Boys 8/Under, Girls 9-10, and Boys 11-12 divisions.   Granite State Flash (Girls 11-12), Haverhill Elite (Boys 13-14), Sentinel Striders (Boys 15-18), and Waltham TC (Girld 13-14) 
also earned team gold medals. NE clubs swept the top 5 spots in Boys 13-14, and took 5 of hte top 6 in two other divisions.   Overall, New England clubs took 32 of the 50 top 5 team places.
