Cross Country Grand Prix Starts With GBTC XC Festival

The 2017 USATF New England Cross Country Grand Prix kicked off Saturday, September 9 at IMG_7171.JPGthe GBTC XC Festival in Wellesley, Massachusetts. The meet started with New England youth running a shortened version of the 5K course, with the Waltham Track Club boys and girls taking first place in both age divisions. For the boys, Waltham Track Club's Baxter Gower-Hall and would run the 2K course in 7:29, earning him first place. He would be followed by Pedro Mayol of the Sentinal Striders, and fellow Waltham Track Club teammate Sam Burgess. For the girls, Clara Lake of Waltham Track Club crossed the finish line first with a time of 8:21. The next runner to cross the finish line was Ellen Galoob of the Rhody Flyers at 8:40. One second later, Delaney Woolbert of Waltham Track Club would take third place with a time of 8:41.

IMG_7223.JPGFor the open teams, it would be Greater Boston Track Club that took away the team wins for both men and women. However, it would be Nate Jenkins of Central Mass Striders (CMS), that would take first place in a time of 15:40. Following closely behind was Nick Green of HFC Striders and Steven Hammer of Gate City Striders. GBTC would take 5 out of the top ten positions to secure the team win.

IMG_7219-(1).JPGOn the women's side, Haley Abing of The Heartbreakers just narrowly beat out second place Allison McCabe of GBTC. Abing crossed the finish line at 18:34, just 3 seconds faster than McCabe. Third place would also go to GBTC's Allison Lynch with a time of 19:45. 

The next event in the USATF New England Cross Country Grand Prix is the Western Mass Distance Project XC at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA.
