DJ Principe is March Athlete of the Month

DJ Principe (La Salle HS / Johnston RI) is USATF-New England's Athlete of the Month for March 2017. The senior capped an outstanding indoor season by racing to a New England high school record 8:47.40 in the two mile at the New Balance Scholastic Nationals in New York as he finished third in the most competative scholastic indoor 2 mile race ever.  The time makes him the #8 scholastic peformer all-time (#11 performance) at the distance indoors.
In February, he won three events at the Rhode Island state championship, and at January's New Balance Games at the NY Armory, he established the New England scholastic 1 mile record running 4:00.97.  The time broke the previous record of 4:04.77 that Principe had established in December.  It also placed him as the #3 performer on the scholastic all-time list, trailing only Drew Hunter and Alan Webb.
An alumnus of the USATF-NE Junior Olympic program, Principe has committed to attend Stanford University in September.
