Jordan Mann is the USATF-NE June Athlete of the Month

The 2018 USATF New England June Athlete of the Month is Jordan Mann of the Ocean State Athletic Club. Jordan placed fifth in the 3000m Steeplechase at the USATF Outdoor Championship in Des Moines, Iowa in 8:28.55. Jordan toed the line alongside some major names in the sport, including 2016 Olympic Silver Medalist Evan Jager. None of that fazed him. Mann, a volunteer coach at Brown University, had entered the race knowing it would be challenge and not “a cake walk.” The gun went off and a little under 8 and a half minutes later, he earned his 5th place finish.

Jordan believes that the keys to success in running(and in life) is to maintain a well rounded attitude and lifestyle, and strive to form a complete human being. From the social aspects of life, such as playing Mafia with friends and participating in his “Black Nerds Book Club,” to watching anime, Jordan loves to keep busy. When he isn’t doing one of these things(or training for races), Jordan is working a part time at Brown University or learning Japanese. He also runs a this youtube channel on anime.“I think being a complete person is really important for my success in running. I wouldn't be nearly as successful sitting around watching TV all day, just thinking about running all the time, so I like to keep myself active..”

Jordan’s favorite race is the steeplechase, although indoor 3ks also have a special place in his heart. During indoor season, he loves to spend his time around the BU track, an has been doing so for the past five years. His next races are international, with the 3k at Cork City Sports in Ireland and a 5k at Heusden-Zolder in Belgium. He is also hoping for bid in the NACAC Steeplechase Championships in Toronto. #NACACyearletsgo!
