Pang, Garabian win Mass. scholastic weight throw

Peabody's Patrick Pang and Seekonk's Cameron Garabian won the seventh annual Massachusetts Scholastic Weight Throw Invitational hosted by USATF-New England at the Reggie Lewis Center as part of the USATF-NE Youth meet on Wednesday. USATF-NE and the Twilight Throwers club offer the opportunity to Bay State athletes, as the weight throw - 20 pounds for girls, 25 pounds for boys - is not an indoor high school track & field event in Massachusetts.
Garabian, a sophomore who won the MIAA Division 5 shot put, tossed the weight a personal best 37'6 1/4"; that was a foot beyond the best of silver medalist Abbie Mokwuah of Longmeadow.

Pang, who has the season's best mark by a Massachusetts thrower, won his second consecutive title. The winning throw of 50'4" came on the last of his six attempts, besting Hayden Dillow of Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood by just four inches.
