Sang, Tesfaye Take 5 Mile Road Championship Wins

Amos Sang and Semehar Tesfaye led the men's and women's competition at the ImmediateCare Ribfest 5 Miler, the USATF-NE 5 Mile Championship.  Over 1600 finsihed the out-and-back course in warm and bright, sunny weather.
Sang (Western Mass Distance Projet), a repeat winner, was part of a three runner pack at the 5km split (15:23), and raced home in 24:37, 5 seconds up on Neal Darmody (Whirlaway Racing Team), each leading their clubs to a matching place in team standings (16 clubs scored). The time was 5 seconds off the course record. Ruben Sanca (Whirlaway) filled the podium in third.
Clocking a 5km split of 16:51 and a overall result of 27:25, women's winner Tesfaye of Greater Boston TC had a margin nearly two minutes over Erin Lane of the host Millennium Running (29:14).  Maggie Mullins of Whirlaway was ten seconds further back to complete the medal awards, and led the club to the open team win - WRT also won the women's 40+ and 50+ divisions.
Other team wins went to Central Mass Striders (M40+, M50+, and W60+), Greater Lowell RR (M60+), and NE 65+ RC (M70+).
Masters age-graded results displayed world level scores with Nate Larson (M55, Gr.Springfield Harriers) at 95.4 and Jan Holmquist (W70, Whirlaway) at 93.2.  The top 50 Age Graded times overall, open and masters, earned barbecue tongs to flip their own ribs at home if they chose not to stay for the Rotary Rock'n RibFest.
