Busy Track and Field Weekend for NE Competitors

A pair of four day meets found the top young and older track and field competitors from the association placing well at a pair of high level events.

Youth from age 7 to 18 contested the Region 1 Junior Olympic Championships in Port Jefferson, Long Island, New York.  Competing against qualifiers from five other associations, New Englanders brought home many medals and earned entry spots for the National Junior Olympic meet in Sacramento California in two weeks.  Results

On the other end of the age spectrum, athletes from 30 to 90+ decended on Ames Iowa for the USATF Masters Outdoor Chmpionships held at Iowa State University in sizzling temperatures.   A dozen New England individuals won their age division event with many more placing in the top 8.   Flo Meiler (Shelburne Vermont/Sprinticity) was the most productive of all the competitors, returning with 10 gold medals in the W85-89 division, and bettering a pair of age group world records in the process.
