October 27, 2019
Falmouth MA
USATF-NE marathon titles were up for grabs on the new course at the Cape Cod Marathon in Falmouth MA on Sunday, with
Shane Whalen
(Whirlaway Racing Team, 2nd overall) and
Hannah Rowe
(B.A.A.) taking New England titles while recording personal bests of 2:24:12 and 2:46:42, respectively. Overall winner was Birhanu Kemal of New York in 2:21:31. The coastal course had its share of wind, presenting challenges to runners late in the race.
David Principe
(Central Mass Striders) completed an Ironrunner year with the M50 win in 2:41:46, better than anyone over 40.
Christin Doneski
(Whirlaway) topped the Women's 40+ results and placed fifth overall with her first sub-3 hour marathon - 2:59:17 - at age 48.
Chunhua Liu
(BEN Running Club), W50 winner, was the only member to win all seven championship races in their age division this year.
Eric Ashe
(B.A.A), 7th overall, secured the men's season long Grand Prix victory.
Whirlaway led the team competitions for both women and men, and took four of six divisions; Central Mass Striders men (M40, M50) won the remaining two.
There were 164 USATF-NE members among the 904 finishers, which was up from last year.
46 Ironrunners completed all seven series events.
