11/24/2019
24 November 2019
Sunken Meadow State Park, Long Island, NY
Despite stormy weather and a slick course, New England clubs and individuals scored high in the USATF Region 1 Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships held at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park, Long Island, New York on Sunday. Overnight rain which continued at various intensity through the final event, and temperatures in the low 40's put the youth to the test, and they responded in all 10 races. Even with the precipitation, the course held up well though most uniforms left the site with a healthy amount of mud.
New England teams swept the top 5 team spots - the qualifying positions for Nationals - in both the Girls and Boys 13-14 age divisions) and had 4 of the top 5 in several other divisions. Association winning teams were Nashua Pal (Girls and Boys 9-10) Waltham Track Club (Girls 11-12, Girls 13-14, and Boys 13-14), and Green Mountain AA (Boys 15-18).
There were five individual winners from the association; Ela Budzinski (New England Elite - girls 9-10), Kiley DeFusco (Sentinel Striders - girls 11-12), Marcus Reilly (Edge Elite - boys 13-14), Abigail Broadley (Wild Endurance - girls 15-16), and Brogan Giffin (Wild Endurance - boys 15-16).
