USATF Masters Road Mile - Van Orden, Westenberg break records

Two New Englanders won National titles and set pending US records at the USATF Masters Road Mile Championship in Flint, Michigan on Friday, August 23.
 
Winning their divisions, Tim Van Orden (Bennington VT/Central Mass Striders) clocked 4:46 to lower the approved 50-54 age group record by 2 seconds and David Westenberg (Wellesley MA) beat the old 60-64 record by 6 seconds with his 5:13.
 
Nat Larson (Amherst MA/Gr.Springfield Harriers) was second in the M55 division in 4:56  but at age 57 won his second Age Graded award in a week, scoring 92.19 for a .51 point margin.  Van Orden and Westenberg were third and fifth Age Grade at 91.01% and 90.20%, respectively.
 
Just six days after a team win at the USA Masters 5km, Greater Springfield Harriers won the mile team trophy with Larson, Alejandro Heuck (Amherst MA, 5:01, 4th M50), and Kent Lemme (Pittsfield MA, 5:06, 7th M50), averaging 5:01 to Atlanta Track Club's 5:07 per man.  
 
Also competing was Scott Grandfield (Rehoboth MA/HFC, M50, 10th, 5:11)
