Happy Trails at Merrimack River Race / USATF-NE Championship
Jesse Young
(Tracksmith Boston Hares) and
Kassandra Marin
(Whirlaway Racing Team) were first to the finish at the
Merrimack River 10 Mile Trail Race
on Saturday. The event served as the 2022 USATF-NE Trail Running Championship.
Young recorded a time of 58:14, a minute-plus over Adam Malek (CMS, 59:25) with Brandon Newbould (Whirlaway), a four-time past winner, in third (1:00:01).
Marin, a regular frontrunner on the USATF-NE mountain circuit, finished in 1:11:58, ahead of Nicole Borofski (B.A.A., 1:13:24) and Jessica Snyder (1:18:08).
It was the 30th "Rivah" race, and the first managed by the North Medford Club. The club offered free entry to those who had run in 20 or more editions and to all previous race winners. Participants in the 2022 event increased by about 50% over last year's numbers with a majority being masters.
