NE Championship at Lone Gull 10K draws a crowd

10km championship has 20 scoring clubs, quality times

The Lone Gull 10K, the sixth USATF-New England road race championship in the seven race 2022 Grand Prix drew competitive fields to the seaside course in Gloucester MA on Sunday, as temperatures in the 60s, partly overcast skies, and only a light breeze made conditions conducive to fast racing and good times.

The men's victory came down to the finnal 400 meters in the Good Harbor Beach Parking lot where Andrew Ernst (unattached, Marblehead MA) strode past Julius Diehr (Ocean State AC) with 100 meters to go for the overall win. Ernst clocked 29:57 with Diehr in at an even 30:00.  The women's competition was a race agaist the clock for Regan Rome, who tied the course record of 33:42, giving her an 11 second margin over runner-up Annmarie Tuxbury (33:54)..
The top masters both finished among the top 12 overall finishers in 596 runner field; Karolyn Bowley (B.A.A.) was 11th woman in 37:08 and Abderrahim Bouramdane (Greater Lowell RR) 12th man in 31:15.

Twenty clubs scored in the team divisions with Boston Athletic Association taking both men's and women's open wins, and Somerville Road Runners men and Whirlaway Racing Team women leading the masters 40+ divisions.
