US Masters records set at USATF-NE Season Opener
First USATF-NE meet at The TRACK at New Balance scores two US age group records
The first USATF-New England hosted meet at The TRACK at New Balance yielded a pair of US Masters Records
The facility, which has only hosted meets since December 1, found over 400 athletes from scholastic age through 70+ entered. It was the first opportunity for most local competitors to compete in the one of a kind facility which includes a fast surface, hydraulic-raised banked turns, ample field event areas, and large scoreboards.
In the fourth section of the mile run,
Dave Westenberg
(Gr.Lowell RoadRunners) hit the 1500m split of the mile in a new M65-69 record of 4:54.18, and narrowly missed breaking his own M65 mile record set 2 weeks ago.
The meet closed with the 4 x 800 meter relay where the
Central Mass Striders
age 55+
quartet of
Dan Verrington, Dave Dunham, David Principe,
and
Scott Grandfield
combined for a time of 10:18.52, good for a new USA M55-59 record. Grandfield had the team's fastest split, 2:23.74.
