New England youth lead Region 1 XC Championship
Many national qualifying places achieved at Ocean Breeze
New England Youth lead Region 1 Junior Olympics Championship
Ocean Breeze Cross Country Course, Staten Island NY

New England youth ran to top team placings at the USATF Region 1 Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships at the new Ocean Breeze cross country course on Staten Island, New York City on Sunday. Competitors qualified through meets from the six associations making up Region 1.
Four indviduals from USATF-NE won their age division races;
Cameron Kurbec
(Sentinel Striders, age 11-12),
Michael Studer
(Gr.Lowell Road Runners, 13-14),
Brody Chisholm
(NE Elite, 17-18), and
Evelin Taveres Pires
(Unattached, 17-18 girls. Kurbec led a 1-2-3 sweep by USATF-NE runners.
New England teams scored five team titles among the 10 races;
Cheetah RC
(Boys 8/Under),
Granite State Flash
(Boys 13-14 and 15-18),
Waltham Track Club
(Girls 13-14), and New England Elite (Girls 15-18). Traditionally the toughest division of the meet, the age 13-14 race was dominated by New England clubs; the girls scored places 1 through 5 and the boys finishe 1-2-3-4 plus 7 and 8.
The top 5 teams and other individuals finishing in the top 30 places in each race qualify for the USA National Junior Olympic Championships to run in Shelbeyville, Indiana, on Saturday, December 14.
