Codfish Bowl XC crowns to Battle Road TC

57th Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park's new courses had strong competition

September 20, Franklin Park, Boston

Utilizing modified courses at Franklin Park due to stadium construction, the 57th Codfish Bowl cross country meet provided good competition in ideal weather conditions for the early season standard on the fall schedule.
The new 2 lap 5km and 3 lap 8km routes, though having 200 meters of pavement on one of the loops, was generally well received, retaining the original Franklin Park course atmosphere (where else in the USA would a cross country meet share a competition field with a cricket match?).

The Codfish was part of the USATF-NE cross country Grand Prix for the first time, and Battle Road TC totaled the low scored in both the women's 5km (15 pts) and men's 8km (59 pts) competition.  Individual gold medals went to Holly Rees (Battle Road) and Cameron Dickson (Tracksmith Boston Hares) who led the 191 women's and 241 men's finishers.

The event has become a regular stop on the NIRCA (National Inter-Collegiate Running Club Association) fall schedule, seeing 13 club teams from New England colleges sending teams. The club running titles went to UMass Amherst women and Boston College men; the squads were also second overall teams.

The USATF-NE Cross Country Grand Prix continues on Sunday, October 5, at the GBTC XC Invite at Great Brook Farm in Carlisle MA
