Road Mile Championships again a poplular event

Numbers grow in second year

The second USATF-NE Road Mile Championships presented By Platinum Physical Therapy on July 13 did not suffer from a "sophomore slump" as field sized increasd this year as close to 500 runners enjoyed a morning of fast and fun times. 

The out-and-back course in Hopkion MA was about 50% shaded on race morning and allowed teammates and friends to watch and cheer. The event featured seven total championshp races - three Men's and two Women's) for USATF-NE members only. 

The day's fastest tmes were in the open races. Danny Cosgrove (Notch) edged John Benner (Battle Road) as both clocked 4:13 in the men's race, and Amalia Maya Dorion (Boston) led three women under 5:00 with her 4:57.
Team scoring combined open and masters race finishers times for a team total, and multiple places were decided by seconds.. Guest runner Jen St.Jean (New York, Central Park TC) missed the US W50 record by one tick.  recording 5:19.

Six runners were repeat winners - Jess Minty (Battle Road, W40), Mary Cass (Liberty AC, W60), Stephen Yankum (CSU, M70), Larry Cole (NE 65+, M90), Alejandro Heuck (Gr.Springfield, M60), and Karolyn Bowley (B.A.A., W55), the latter two in an older age division this year.
