Featured Events Prize Money Guidelines

For the 2026 USATF New England Indoor Championships only, USATF New England will pay prize money to the first through third place finishers in each of the featured events

The prize structure is as follows:
  • 1st - $750
  • 2nd - $350
  • 3rd - $150 
PERFORMANCE BONUS

In addition to the prize structure, we are offering a $500 bonus for the winning performance in each Featured Event that meets  the following marks:

NOTES

  • Please make sure your contact information (email address and phone number) is up to date under your USATF Connect profile. We will use entry information as a backup 
  • Winners will need to complete and W-9 or W8-BEN  and ACH form that will arrive via email from the USATF New England bookkeeper
  • Only USATF members and members of foreign federations are eligible for prize money
  • Prize Money will go to Top 3 finishers only in the Open Sections
  • College/University: Athletes with remaining collegiate eligibility must check with their respective university compliance departments to determine if they are eligible to receive prize money according to NCAA rules (i.e. actual and necessary, Enhanced Operation Gold). If an athlete with collegiate eligibility is approved to receive prize money, the university compliance representative must provide approval/documentation to USATF New England via email (treasurer@usatfne.org).  The deadline to provide this approval/documentation from your university/college compliance department is May  31, 2026, to be eligible to receive this prize money.
  • High School: High school athletes must check with their High School Association to confirm if it is permissible to accept the funds and continue to compete for their high school team.  The deadline to provide this approval documentation from the High School Association is May 31, 2026, to be eligible to receive this prize money.  Please email treasurer@usatfne.org
  • Athletes are eligible to receive prize money in more than one event.
  • Athlete's with other unique payment requirements should send a detailed email to treasurer@usatf.org
  • Prize money payouts will adhere to USATF Elite Sanction guideline outlined below
Please be aware prize money payments will be reported to the IRS as reportable income and are subject to federal, state, and local income tax. Since no taxes are being withheld by USATF New England, you may have a tax liability at the time you file your tax return, and you may want to consider setting aside some funds for this purpose. If the amount of reportable income including all stipends, prize money, etc. is $600 or more cumulative during a tax year, USATF New England will issue a 1099 NEC. USATF New England  is not offering tax advice, but recipients of USATF New England  funding and benefits are advised to retain their own tax professionals to receive guidance regarding tax implications.

Elite Sanction Guidelines
 

USATF New England  affirms that it will not pay athletic funds based on performance to any ineligible athlete. All qualified athletes finishing below a disqualified athlete shall be moved up one place and shall receive athletic funds based on performance in accordance with such adjusted place finish. Compliance with this paragraph forms part of the conditions upon which the USATF Sanctioned Event is granted. All athletic funds based on performance shall be paid to athletes in accordance with the prize schedule. Compliance with this payment schedule and the Elite Addendum are integral conditions upon which the sanction is granted. Notice of any changes must be submitted to USATF and no change will be effective without USATF approval.
 

Additionally, the Organizer agrees as follows:
 

  1. USATF ELITE ATHLETE SANCTION ADDENDUM (“ELITE ADDENDUM”). 
  2.  
  3. Any USATF Sanctioned Event which includes one of the following elements will be subject to this Elite Addendum provision:
  4.  
    1. Awards at least one individual prize greater than $500;
    2.  
    3. Serves as a National Championship or selection trial for an international team (other than Youth or Masters); or
    4.  
    5. Subject to formal drug testing procedures.
    6.  
    1. Appropriate measures have been taken to protect the eligibility status of athletes who will take part in the competition and to protect their eligibility to compete in international amateur athletics competition.
    2.  
    3. Appropriate provisions have been made for the validation of records which may be established during the competition. If drug testing is necessary to validate a world record, the Organizer will pay the cost of such test.
    4.  
    5. Due regard has been given to World Athletics requirements specifically applicable to the competition.
    6.  
    7. The competition will be conducted by qualified officials.
    8. Upon request, the organizer will furnish to USATF an audited/notarized financial report of similar events conducted within the past four (4) years.
    9.  
    10. If the USATF Sanctioned Event is selected for drug testing, appropriate facilities for doping control will be made available by the Organizer.  In addition, all entry blanks or related published materials must contain the following language: “Athletes who participate in this competition may be subject to formal drug testing in accordance with USATF and World Athletics rules, in accordance with USOPC, USADA, or WA procedures. Athletes found, after a disciplinary hearing, to be positive for prohibited substances, as defined by the WADA Code, WA and/or AIU, or who refuse to be tested, will be disqualified from this Event and may lose eligibility for future competitions. Any prize money payable to an athlete who has tested positive shall be withheld until the final disposition of all disciplinary proceedings. BEWARE: Some prescriptions, over the counter medications, and nutritional supplements may contain prohibited substances. Information regarding drugs and drug testing may be obtained by calling the USADA Reference Hotline at 719-785-2000 or www.usantidoping.org."
    11. The Event represents and warrants that it has fully complied with all Elite Addendum requirements, including payment of prize money, for USATF sanctioned competitions that it has conducted within the preceding four-year period.
