Kipyego, Doyle place second at USA U20 Championships
Six members of USATF New England competed in the USA U20 Championships in Miramar, Florida, last weekend with two from Rhode Island making the medal podium. The U20 meet is for individuals at least 14 but not turning 20 during the year and has qualifying standards.
Darius Kipyego
(Warwick) and
Garrett
Doyle (Lincoln) placed second in their event to make the Team USA roster for next month's Pan American U20 Championships in Costa Rica.
Kipyego, a 16 year old sophomore at St.Raphael's High School who won the Rhode Island High School Championship, has taken down personal and school records all season. His time of 1:51.26 on Sunday placed second behind U.Maine freshman James Olivier.
Now a freshman at Ohio State, Doyle spun the 6 kilogram hammer 212-04 / 64.73m for the silver medal. Fellow Ocean Stater Cameron Croce (Hope/Sacred Heart U) was fifth.
