RESULTS - National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships

Three USATF New England youth earned gold medals at the USATF National Junior Olympic Championship meet in Jacksonville, Florida July 26-August 1.
Competitors faced more than the usual stiff competition in this unusual year with long lines for daily Covid tests, storm delays, and schedules suspended due to high temperatures on the final days. 

Leading the way for locals with a pair of golds was Tarik-O'Haegn (Ocean State Hammerheads/Woonsocket RI) with wins in the age 17-18 hammer (70.58m/231'6") and shot put (19.17m / 62'10.75").  Earlier in the month, he recorded top 3 finishes in both events at the National Scholastic Championships in Oregon.

Jacob Cookinham (Tiverton RI) won the shot put in the age 15-16 division (18.24m /
59'10.25"), and Michael Studer (Gr.Lowell Road Runners/Westford MA) led the age 11-12 3000 meter field out of the unseeded section in a time of 10:00.80.

In all, 17 New Englanders made the medal podium with top 8 finishes.
