USATF-NE clubs breeze through Lone Gull 10K

Third event in 2021 USATF-NE Road Race Grand Prix

UPDATE 9/23 - SCORING AND SERIES STANDINGS POSTED

Under blue skies but with steady wind along the shoreline course, 456 runners toured Gloucester's "Back Shore" in Sunday's Lone Gull 10K, the third event in the 2021 USATF-NE Road Race Grand Prix Series.  The event saw the largest team turnout for a USATF-NE series event in 2021 as 14 different clubs scored in at least one division.

The men's race came down to the almost quarter mile finish straightaway after entering the Good Harbor Beach parking lot with Jonathan Phillips (The Heartbreakers) edging Brian Harvey (B.A.A.) by 2 seconds - and Harvey moving into second ahead of Tim Gill only in the final two strides of the race.
Conversely, Rachel Hyland (B.A.A.) was a lone gull in the women's results, finishing first with a 1:38 gap on runner-up Katie Kellner (Craftsbury Green Racing Project).  Hyland's time of 33:50 was just 10 seconds off the course record of 33:40 set 2021 by Olympian Molly Seidel.

In team scoring, the Boston Athletic Association and Tracksmith again battled for open team honors, With the blue and gold winning a place ahead in both men's and women's open division ranks.

Over half the field in the popular fall classic were USATF-NE members, mostly club runners.  Results at gsrs.com/results/4518
