Course, world masters records at Bobby Doyle 5 Miler / USATF-NE Championship
Jan Holmquist records World/US W75 masters record
A fast field toured coastal roads of Narragansett RI, producing course records and a World Masters
Record at the
Bobby Doyle 5 Mile
, the 2022 USATF-NE 5 Mile Championship. Though temperatures hit 80 degrees, the day was missing the high humidity or some past years, so conditions were excellent for a
summer race.
Overall winner Josh Izewski, 2018 winner and course record holder, traveled from North Carolina in
search of a second win, and the Zap Endurance runner again lowered the course standard, breaking the
tape in 23:26. A lead that built to over 100 meters shrunk to just 5 seconds at the finish as
Jordan
Mann
(Ocean State TC/New Balance) outkicked
Paul Hogan
(B.A.A.) to earn New England Champion honors when chasing down the winner.
Emily Sisson
(New Balance) did not back off from her fall marathon training, yet easily won the women's
race in 25:08, 36 seconds ahead of 2016 Olympian Marielle Hall; Sisson's 8km split of 25:00 was among
the best times ever run by a US women for the distance.
Overall, 20 men turned in sub-25:00 times and 18 women were under 30:00.
In 2021,
Jan Holmquist
just missed the US women's 75-79 US Record for 8km and her return not only
garnered the American record, it also improved the World best. The Whirlaway ace recorded a time of
39:37. Her training change in the past year? "I've been doing upper body strength work".

The
B.A.A.
won both team titles, with
Tracksmith Boston Hares
second for women and
CMS
second for men.
