Masters Ramble to National Titles

For eighth time, the James Joyce Ramble in Dedham MA played host to the USA Masters National 10km Road Race Championship. The 293 entrants (262 finishers) makes it among the largest USA Masters events in the past decade and the field was truly national with over a dozen states represented in the various age division individual and team winners. Overcast skies and temperatures in the 50's made it chilly for spectators but ideal for the competitors

The Masters field had a 5 minute head start over the open field to allow them an open road and time to size up their fellow age group competitors. First to great the tape was Jesse Davis of Indiana Elite in 32:07 with Ben Jarrett (Whirlaway Racing Tem) the top local in third at 33:11.
Women's winner Jessica Smith of California's Impala Racing Team clocked 36:00; she's a Massachusetts native, having attended Barnstable HS. Silver medalist and first from the New England association was Jennifer Mortimer (Millennium Running) in 37:05.
The top 10 masters men's and women's times would all have placed among the top 10 times in the open results. Seven associations were represented among the team winners.
