New England strong at Region 1 Junior Olympic Cross Country

NE Teams win 7 divisions in Maine

New England teams dominated team scoring at the USATF Region 1 Junior Olympic Cross Country Championshps held on Sunday, November 20, at Noble High School in North Berwick, Maine.  Temperatures were seasonal in the low 40's but wind increased through the day and, combined with many turns and twists, added challenges to the relatively flat course.

Team wins were earned by Cheetahs Running Club (age 8/under boys), Nashua PAL (8/under girls),  Waltham Track Club (11-12 girls, 13-14 girls), New England Elite (11-12 boys, 15-18 girls), and Sentinel Striders (15-18 boys).  New England clubs swept the top 5 team positions in the 13-14 girls and 15-18 boys races, and took 4 of 5 in the 11-12 girls, 11-12 boys, and 13-14 boys races.

Four New England boys and two girls took home the individual gold medal in their age group; Lucas LaFleur (Cheetahs, 9-10 boys), Ethan Fischer (Nashua PAL, 11-12), Patrick Noonan (Waltham TC, 13-14), Nathan Evans (Sentinel Striders, 15-18), Emily O'Donnell (Waltham TC, 13-14) and  Lucy McLean (New England Elite, 15-16).

The top 5 teams and individuals finishing in the top 30 places overall in each division qualify for the USATF National Junior Olympic meet to be held December 10th  in College Stations, Texas
