Two New England winners at USATF Junior Olympic Nationals

Lisa Raye (200), Catherine Jacobs (Shot Put) win gold medals

The 2023 Junior Olympic Nationals in Eugene Oregon ended last Sunday with 304 events over seven days of competition, and a pair of New England athletes returned with gold medals.

Lisa Raye (Providence Cobras, West Warwick RI) capped her championship season which stretched back to high school events in May with two sprint medals in the 15-16 division.  After a close second place in the 100m (11.99 to 11.96), she returned to win the 200m (23.74 to 23.89).  It was a busy week in Tracktown USA after running trials semis, and finals in each dash, plus a leg on the Cobras' 4x100 relay against youth from around the country.
On the other end of the age groups, Catherine Jacobs (Launch, Falmouth MA) brought home a gold in the 8/under shot put, her 20'10" toss bettering the field by over a foot.
5300 youth were entered in the championship meet with event participation at some of the meets's highest ever levels.
