James Kotowski is June Athlete of the Month
U.Mass Lowell junior a surprising fifth at Olympic Trials
Javelin thrower James Kotowski (Stoneham MA) / UMass Lowell) is the USATF New England Athlete of the Month for June 2024.
After having his initial U.S. Olympic Trials qualifying mark disallowed for technical reasons, the Riverhawk junior achieved an accepted performance on the final date of qualifying, June 8.
Moving on to the Trials in Eugene Oregon on June 21, Kotowski was among twelve competitors who advanced from the preliminary rounds to the finals. Two days later, he finished fifth overall in the finals with a personal best throw of 75.69 meters / 248'4".
During the past season, Kotowski broke the UMass Lowell record three times, and was named America East Male Track & Field Performer of the Year as well as earning conference All-Academic honors while majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
