USA Masters Record for Jan Holmquist at USATF-NE Track & Field Championship

New 1500m record for women age 80-84

Jan Holmquist (Whirlaway Racing Team/Needham MA) clocked a time of 7:22.61 in the 1500m race for a pending new US age 80-84 record at the USATF-NE Open and Masters Track & Field Championship held at Regis College on Saturday.

The multi-time US Masters record holder at numerous distance in multiple age groups on the road and track opted to compete in the meet after turning in a quality time at the USATF-NE Road Mile Championship the previous week.

The day's top men's performance was recorded by Michael Kish (Houston Elite) in the 200m.  The 75 year old clocked 27.47 over 200 meters which bettered the World and US M75-79 record for the disance he set last week at the USATF National Masters Championship - but it won't receive record recognition as the wind reading of 2.4 meters/second was above the legal maximum of 2.0. He'll take another shot at the mark next month as he heads to Daegu, South Korea, for the World Masters Championship.  Kish also won the M75 100m at both the New Englands and the USA Masters.

A pair of local May college grads won two events each in their extended season.  Kiara Abrantes (Bridgewater State) won the women's 100m (12.53) and 200m (25.17) while Joachim Ennoo (URI) leapt to gold in the men's long jump (7.11m/23'4") and triple jump (14.24m/46'8 3/4").
257 competitors recorded results in the meet in the best conditions the event has seen in many years - 80 degrees, sunny, and minimal wind.

The pole vault competition was held on July 26 at Westborough High School with 41 vaulters spread over 3 flights.  Overall winners were Carson Dean (Patriot Pole Vault) at 4.55m/14'11" and Lois Jones (Patriot Pole Vault) at 3.50m/12'5 1/2")
